Patient Safety and MR Safety Tech
The MR Safety Tech is a highly trained on-site healthcare professional dedicated to supporting MRI procedures and ensuring patient safety throughout the scanning process. Serving as Level 1 MR Personnel with select Level 2 responsibilities, they oversee Zone 3 and Zone 4 operations—including supervision, safety restrictions, and emergency response protocols when required. The MR Safety Tech provides continuous patient care and monitoring, enforces MRI safety protocols such as screening for contraindications, and ensures compliance with all facility, state, and federal regulations. Working in constant coordination with the Remote MR Scanning (RMS) Technologist through two-way audio-video communication, they relay critical patient information, confirm exam readiness, and safeguard scan execution. While trained in contrast administration and power injector operation, if necessary, the MR Safety Tech also attends to patient comfort, responds swiftly to distress or adverse reactions, and manages routine suite preparation, equipment handling, and cleanliness. The MR Safety Tech maintains ultimate control of the remote console connection, with the authority to terminate remote access at any time.
